your right it- woman adopting their man’s last name began in a time when women had no rights and they were just play things and baby makers who were ment to slave away at home for her husband and everything. but now women have a choice. i can have children and become a stay-at-home mom and dedicate my life to keeping the house and the kids in order OR i can go get a job and my husband can stay at home OR my hubby and i can both get jobs OR we can both win the lottery and stay home. i also have the choice to keep my last name, take my husband’s, give my husband mine, or my husband and i can make up a random last name and adopt it to both our names.

some people are partial to one choice, some people think one choice is more romantic than others, some people like to be old fasioned, some people like to be modern, and some people couldnt careless, and some people are keeping up with whatever the Jone’s are up to

but whatever the case- at the end of the day theres a choice and i think thats whats important. i, as a woman, am not going to be forced to get a job and provide financial support for my family, im not going to be forced to stay at home and care for my material belongings and my children, and im not going to be forced to take my husband’s last name. and theres a huge difference to being forced to do somthing and choosing to do it.

you dont get why women take their husband’s last name. i dont get why people dont laugh at themselves more often.

I think Paris is a really smart girl, and it is very level headed and smart to spend some time away. If this is true it makes the thing about Nicole make more sense. If Paris decided to do this it would be a very mature way of making a decision to fully commit to someone.

Im married and I was happy to drop my maiden name. My father is a douchebag! Taking your husband’s name isn’t throwing your old one in the dumpster it’s acknowledging that you are a part of a different family. This is the lamest comment ever.

The reason why though, that it’s the two unifying under the man’s last name, is because if you pick up a history book, you’ll see sexism left and right. Marriage started out as state sanctioned *** slavery, in a way. In ancient times, a man would pay another man for his daughter, and the woman would be transferred from being property of her father, to being property of her “husband.” The word “husband” in fact comes from the Old English “house holder.”

There’s no logical reason to have the mentality that some women have about the whole marriage thing. They’d be “glad” to take their husband’s last name, as if their family history and other things means little…

I hope it all works out for their greatest happiness, whoever Paris picks.

I love Benji Madden dearly, in fact I love everyone in Good Charlotte.

However, we all know that no guy is totally perfect and life always has a certain amount of ups and downs, even for Paris.

But Benji and Paris were a really cute couple and if they can make it work, more power to them.

its a personal choice. i personally think would keep my last name- but other girls really look forward to changing their name to their husband’s. its not necessarily a sign of disrespect for the woman- more of a unification. and a lot of men really look forward to giving their last name to their lover

i guess its all about personal opinion. but either way its important to respect others’ opinions

It’s a woman’s choice whether or not she wants to change her name when she gets married. It’s incredibly rude to judge a woman over this decision.
It’s her life, let her live it the way she wants.

What is this “source”? This is just sort of dumb sounding, really. Also, I’d lose some degree of respect for her if she changed her last name if/when she does ever get married. It shows a willingness to back down for western culture. What really makes the man so worthy of having his last name passed on, while the woman’s last name gets thrown in the dumpster? Sure, a girl can have it as her middle name, but her KIDS won’t have that name, or anything.
