Paris Hilton was sentenced Friday to 45 days in jail for driving with a suspended license.
“(Hilton) disregarded everything … and didn’t care and kept driving,” Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer said.
Hilton, 26, who was present along with her parents, looked stunned when the sentence was read, while her mother gasped.
“I’m shocked and disappointed at the sentence (handed down) by the judge,” her attorney Howard Weitzman said. “To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous. She was singled out for who she is. She’s been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony. We plan to appeal. Shame on the system.”
The judge said Hilton must report for jail no later than June 5.
In the two-hour hearing, Hilton took the witness stand and claimed she was informed by her rep Elliot Mintz that her license was only suspended for 30 days, and that she could drive for work-related matters.
“I never would’ve been driving if my license was suspended,” she testified. “I follow the law. I’m followed by cameras every single day.”
And before her sentence was handed down, she stood and gave a statement to the judge, saying, “I respect the law.”
“I want you to know I’m very sorry and will pay complete attention to everything from now on,” she said.
But prosecutors who sought the 45-day term for Hilton contended she knowingly drove with the suspension Feb. 27, and failed to enroll in an alcohol education program.
Prosecutors called to the stand three law enforcement officers, who each pulled over Hilton on three occasions, the first being her DUI arrest in September 2006. The first warned her that her license may be suspended, the subsequent two officers informed her it definitely was.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the judge singled out what he referred to as the “smoking gun” – a written warning Hilton received and signed after being pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15 that her license was indeed suspended.
YUP, THAT’S ALL TRUE. I FEEL BAD FOR HER SHE SEEMS SO DESPERATE TO NOT GO TO JAIL, SHE’S PROBABLY CRYING HER HEART OUT AT HOME. THIS IS MAKING ME TEARY LOL.
She’s actually going to a jail nearby Compton, she’ll be held in a segregated 2 person cell wearing a choice of colored jumpsuits depending on which side she’s held on (wearing it is not an option) She will be provided with Breakfast, lunch, and dinner based on poultry foods. She will have ONLY 1 hour a day to shower, talk on the jail phone (no cell), watch TV, and exercise. Since this is summer she’ll miss out on ALOT in Hollywood while her freinds are living it up hitting clubs and shopping for the Summer fashions, and drinking Jamba Juice while she’s in jail.
The only problem with this situation is that the punishment does not fit the crime. Imagine if, instead of being put in a minimum security style prison, she was put into a more fitting Alcatraz-style prison in which she would be raped to death by inmates serving life sentences, penetrating her every *******, and then making new ones. That would be a truly fitting end to her hideous, filthy life.
I like to hope that everyone who reads this website and supports Miss Hilton deserves the same. At the very least, gets raped. And possibly murdered.
She should have been honest. Telling the judge she followed the law was a poor defense, her lawyers should have known better. I mean, if she had been following the law in the first place, she would not have been drunk driving. In my opinion, she got special treatment by getting off so light in the beginning. I know many may support her, and wonder if they would still support her if she had driven drunk and caused an accident that night. If so, should we feel sorry for all drunk drivers who kill others by their wrecklessness. The woman is worth millions, she can afford a limo and a driver.
I cant believe Paris is going to jail. She must be so devastated. But, all her true fans I KNOW will back her up. Me and my friends wanna make shirts or some other item that says “Save Paris”. Even though it probaly wont help her get out of jail it will show our support. I just wanna say to all Paris’s true fans: Let’s Back Paris up anyway we can!!!WE LOVE PARIS!!!
Dea, as if she has actually achieved anything..I don’t get how she actually has fans. It’s like math to me. She’s not really pretty, not talented, nothing. Acting could be her thing though. She should try to excel at that. Honestly I do think she’s a sweet person, just too damn annoying.
Dea? That’s really hurtful, you didn’t get my point. I’m just saying what I saw on the news and telling everyone so everyone knows what they’re talking about. I love Paris, I’m a HUGE fann, I wouldn’t be on here if I wasn’t. But I think she was truthful, but I think they wanted to put her in jail (that’s stupid)But I’m not gunna go out by the jail and make signs for a strike, (I LIVE IN THE EAST COAST) I would so hate to go to jail, especially without my cell phone, and without stuffing my face with junk food. I’m sure she’ll miss her pets. I’m not gunna say “Oh Paris won’t go to jail” bcuz thats a lie, and everyone knows for a sad fact that she is.
PLUS I’ve even been told I look and act and talk like Paris and that’s when I started liking her, she’s my IDOL/ROLEMODEL. Plus she has thee best wardrobe.
Oh my god, I can’t believe this! The world will be so boring and pointless for 45 days! She didn’t do anything that bad! Nicole Richie got caught with vicodin and other drugs like 5 times and they didn’t do anything to her! Paris had a .08 and .08 is the minimum and it was only once. Uggh I’m so mad/sad/confused
This isnt a joke. you need to have someone violate a minor crime now so she will have someone on the inside or find someone that is being held on bail offer to pay this bail on the day of her safe release and she will have a confidont
Am I the only one being realistic here?? Paris was driving while intoxicated. She could have killed innocent people, or worse, herself. She seems pretty devastated though. LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE YOU GUYS! At least she’s not going to be in jail for 90 days like they assumed earlier.
I actually learned about this incident coming up for dinner earlier today. My mom was like, “Hey look, your best friend Paris Hilton is going to jail” (I’m not saying she’s my best friend, my mom just uses weird sentance things when she’s talking about celebrities I like). I was pretty shocked. I thought that in California, if you were a celebrity or had money, you could get away with murder. Remeber O.J Simpson?
I do agree that its going to be SOOOOO BORING without new Paris pictures for 45 days. I always enjoy seeing all her different outfits and ever since Nicole Richie has been going out with Joel Madden her clothes have become pretty drab.
This is absolutely absurd. Driving with a suspended license requires a repremand but it’s unfathomable to be sending this lady to jail.
People who get caught drink driving twice don’t get prison time.
She was caught DUI ONCE. and it was .08.
Outlandish. Megan
No one has even considered that she could actually KILL somebody doing this! Isn’t that spoiled enough risking other people’s life for having fun? It is a serious repeated and awful crime. In Europe she would have got three years for this! While her parents talks about “She’s been selectively targeted†when this is all their fault making her a spoiled brat who thinks she so much better then anybody else. Having over 0.08% alcohol in her blood, do you all realize how drunk she must have been? And then comparing it to the European limit which is 0.02% I hope you all realize that this is what she need for her own good.
I’ve been sick to my stomach ever since I heard the verdict.
There is still hope, however, in the reality that the LA country jail is severely overcrowded. Because of this, I highly doubt they will keep Paris for the full 45 day sentence. At maximum, she will probably server 7-10 days, probably even less.
In essence, Paris does not need to serve her whole sentence, and there are many more people ‘worthy’ of taking her place at the LA county jail…people who pose a REAL threat to society.
I truly hope that this shocking sentence will appease the ‘haters’ and those thinking that Ms. Hilton will finally be treated the same as ‘everybody else.’ Well, sorry to break it to you guys, but Ms. Hilton isn’t like ‘everybody else.’ Because of who she is, serving a jail sentence will be 10x more debilitating than if you and I served.
This is a great blow to the judicial system who pandered to the pressures and inane responses of the American general public. I am ashamed by this and only hope that once the spotlight has been shifted from this particular news item, real justice can be served; in other words, Paris’ sentence will be revised to a lesser term or maybe even overruled and instead deemed to community service.
I’m afraid ignorance is no excuse and it is fair. My daughter (in Australia) age 24, never any form of offence BUT had built up parking fines and not paid them. Here if the bills arent paid, your licence is suspended. My daughter used the same excuse Paris did – that she didnt receive the mail and was unaware that her licence was suspended. 3 wks ago she was picked up 15km over the speed limit, meaning she was travelling at 75kms instead of 60kms, the police naturally checked her licence and found it suspended. She had to go to court 1 week ago – had incredibly good references, has little money but puts in MUCH time helping the disadvantaged etc BUT she still lost her licence for 12months only because it was a first offence, second offence it is made QUITE CLEAR, the result is GAOL. My daughter was not drink driving where others could have been in danger but she broke the rules and ignorance no excuse. She didnt say “oh, it’s not fair”, she said “I got what I deserved” and is now going thru much pain for it. Working TWO jobs via public transport to pay her fines. Sold her precious car for same reason and on top of that is still doing much for the disadvantaged together with working to get her fashion design business up and running with no money. YES, IT IS FAIR PARIS, sorry.
Just read Paris’ words “I never would have been driving if my licence was suspended”- quite incredible, these were the EXACT words my daughter said – spooky. The Magistrates look at it that if you are a mature person YOU KNOW that for instance in my daughter’s case if you don’t pay your parking fines, your licence is suspended whether you bothered to find out or not is irrelevant. In Paris’ case pretty similar I suppose, as a mature person if you have already had one drink/driving offence as a mature person you would FIND OUT whether your licence was suspended or not. Fact is having a driving licence is not a RIGHT but a PRIVILEGE. The night my daughter was picked up she was bringing her brother home from hospital, just had a fairly major operation, he was in pain and she then had to get to a church Youth meeting as a Leader and didnt want to let them down. It’s all irrelevant because the cumulative effect of driving on a suspended licence is the bottom line. To add to this trauma our most precious and loving golden retriever died the following day breaking all our hearts. Paris had no excuse really – no doubt she has chaffuers to help her out when without a licence.
My daughter will be better and stronger for this experience and I hope this is the case for Paris.
HOW could she have KILLED someone? she was the min drunk your can be in L.A.! its not like she was driving on the wrong side of the road or got in a huge car crash. THEN she could have killed someone.
this message goes to the poster called paris herself, u are a sick excuse of a human being, to wish that kind of stuff on people for supporting somebody, u are truely sick and should be hospitalized, and as for the people talking about her possibly killing somebody, yes we understand she could have but she didn’t plus, SHE HAD THE LOWEST ALCOHOL LIMIT POSSIBLE, i doubt she was even tipsy, she prolly just wasn’t paying attention and that does happen to everyone when they drive, we all lose our attention for a second at some point, now nicole, that was a big deal, she had weed and vicodin in your system, which ***** up your senses even worst and a hell of alot faster, for christ sake she was driving on the wrong side of the rode, but yet where is she now, prolly shopping along robertson or smoochin her boyfriend, so not fair!!!
PARIS DESERVES EVERYTHING SHE GETS! Karma is a ***** and so is Paris. It’s about time she faced the consequences of her crimes. Yes, crimes. She could have killed someone. It could have been you, your mum, your dad, ANYONE. I bet you wouldn’t be saying ‘OmFg sHee sooooooOOooo dOesn’T deServEEE DAt!!11!’ if it was someone from your family who got killed. Paris has had this coming for a LONG time.
wtf? why are there haters on this site? You haters seriously have NO life if your going around posting stupid comments like ” YAYAYAYA PARIS IS GOING TO JAILLL WHOOO LETS CELEBRATE!!!!??/1/” you dont like paris, you dont like paris. period. you dont have to tell the whole world.
No matter who she is, I don’t think she should incurs such kind of too heavy penalty, 45 days in jail absolutely too heavy for this kind of issue, for all the people who have same problem.
after all, she never did any accident to hurt any person, I don’t think some people suppose what will happen. the law should focuse on what had happened.
Her offence is too little comparing with other criminals.
This is ridiculous. Paris Hilton does not know who any of you are, neither does she care. I understand you are fans (thought the reason why escapes me) but if this were any other person, would you care? This will be huge publicity for her and she will get something out of this, trust me on that.
If this were happening to someone else, would you care? The point is that NO ONE is above the law, and I’m glad that is powerful enough to burst the bubble of a spoiled, bratty, celebretard.
Paris, I’m sorry Mommy or Daddy couldn’t get you out of this one. Have to grow up eventually, sweetheart!
Of course this is a fan site but that does not mean that it should be close for debate and support narrow-minded thinking about this issue and others. I would like to give credit to the admin who is running this site and who lets this forum be open for different opinions. What happen have all affect us in one or another way, even if we are Paris-fans or family/ friends to victims who died because of drink & driving. What we all can agree about is that we never want to see this happen again, not to Paris, Nicole or anybody! Thanks for having the debate open on this site. It is important for all of us.
but I’m sure, she can pass it. of course with all of her family, friends and her fans’s support.
I can’t belive she’s going to jail.
like brittany’s words: WE LOVE PARIS..!!
yeah.. we do love her. maybe it won’t help her, but it’s just an action that we can show:” we’ll always support her, no matter what.”
its mot fair that people single her out just cos shes paris hilton
i bet the judge went home and said: hello kids guess what? i sent paris hilton to jail today
poor paris
She(paris) needs to se just how the
other people tha is less fortunate is ttreated. She should have gotten 6 months and a d/l
suspension of 12 mos. She has no respect for the law that everyone else must obey.
I don’t think for one second that Paris Hilton was singled out and made an example because of who she is – if so, it is a very POOR example. I am positive there are people out there in your country who have been dealt with just as severely driving on a suspended licence who are nobodys on the world stage. IT’S PROLLY FROM LISTENING TO “WHAT HURTS THE MOST” BY RASCALL FLATTS WHICH IS TOTALLY APPROPREITE FOR THIS SITUATION.
She’s actually going to a jail nearby Compton, she’ll be held in a segregated 2 person cell wearing a choice of colored jumpsuits depending on which side she’s held on (wearing it is not an option) She will be provided with Breakfast, lunch, and dinner based on poultry foods. dats soo unfair!!poor Paris…and how do yoou now soo much Camilla?!?
This is a Paris FAN SITE,so what IS your problem Camille?
I feel bad for Paris.
Many people are jealous of her, especially fat ugly women and other assorted under achivers.
I do believe Paris was truthful in what she said.

You flaunt the law and the system and you pay the price. She ignored the warnings and felt she was above the law.

If we suppose she will make a crime and then decide what penalty she will get, it is ridiculous!
In addition, the human should always give beautiful girls more mercy!
I think in this case, community service or serve in the house is enough penalty for her!

It’s about time you found out what real life is. If your parents really cared they would have taught you responsibility for your inane actions.
