Australian newspaper Herald Sun writes:
Despite an avalanche of promotion, it looks like no one is buying Paris Hilton as a pop star.
Her self-titled debut album missed the top 20 this week, debuting at No. 24.
That’s just 1914 copies sold nationally.
Hilton only narrowly edged out little-known thrash metal heads Lamb of God, with their album, Sacrament, landing at No. 25.
It’s a similar story in Britain, where Paris limped into the chart at No. 29.
Now, that’s not hot.
The Irish Examiner writes:
Paris Hilton’s pop career flounders.
Paris Hilton’s career as a pop star is already floundering, according to a US report.
The New York Post said her debut album, Paris, only sold 75,000 copies in the US in its first week, with the projected figure for next week just 30,000.
The hotel heiress’s first single, Stars Are Blind, is languishing at number 49 in the US Billboard Hot 100, and limped in at number 29 in the UK.
Another problem is that she will not be touring to promote the album because she cannot sing live, the Post said.
But Hilton’s spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said that to him the album “sounds huge“.
“For a newcomer, this is incredibly impressive,†he told the newspaper.

Not to be negative but Paris’ publicist doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s not impressive. Poor Paris :/

Her album debuted at number 6 in the states….thats good.
In the world 190000 copies that’s so great for her debut album.
For those of you who already have the CD, does it include the lyrics to the songs? Because if it does I’ll get it this week otherwise I’ll wait till the price goes down a tad.
There is an inset with some of the lyrics inside the cover.
The CD has only been out a week for chrissakes, the newspapers are too quick to bury it. Just give it a little time to sell.
They said the same about Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson - and the TV chanels here gave them a lot more free coverage than they gave Paris.
There are also complaints about Beyonce’s new CD, geez just give these people a break.
Most people are buying new school outfits for their kids at the end of summer, the kids will spend money on CDs as the year progresses.
Retrograde - I double checked my CD and it has the lyrics to ALL the songs in the booklet which is inside.
The numbers will increase, I’m sure. It was just the first week. For the first week it was indeed very bad, but I think after some more weeks or months and some new single releases (like “Turn It Up” or “Nothing In This World”), more people will buy the album. It’s sad that she will not be touring, it would be a great promotion. People just need to get used to the music of Paris Hilton, that’s all.

evrything takes time.. it hasen’t been realed yet here in Indonesia…
but when she fails on record she can alwayz turn on evrything else… fashion, movies, TV, and alot more stuff…

I love paris to death as well as her album, but you guys are forgettin’ one thing about music bussiness. The first week sales usually give out the dirction to the whole sell, coz most ppl buy the album on the first week. That’s why it’s so sad. it’s pretty unique if the numbers suddenly raise a lot from those published now. =(
Let’s wait and see how the sales figures are by the end of the year, the CD may keep selling at a steady pace.
Plus right now, sales are down all over for many artists because of the flat economy.
Tonya thanks a bundle. When I go to the store (today or tomorrow) I’ll pick up a copy. I think the problem is that this is Paris Hilton. Even though she’s nice and super-talented, people won’t buy her CD just out of spite. It sucks but people are mean. Poor Paris. I hope it manages to do well anyway.
Retrograde I think you are right. A lot of people are not buying it just because they “expect” her to fail and don’t even give her the opportunity. The album is already out here in South Africa and I LOVE it…I had mixed feelings before hearing it, since noone knew if she had a good voice, but her voice sounds really really good and all of the songs are really catchy. I’ve been listening to the CD all week!
My copy didn’t come with Lyrics though. I can say one thing though to Paris - I read all the “thanks” to her managers, family etc on the CD cover, where she thanks everyone who helped her, all the people even her pets, but she doesn’t say anything about the fans who bought the album and have stuck with her all this time.
Anyway, to be honest, I don’t care if the album goes # 1 on the charts, all I care is that Paris got her dream come true (to sing and record an album) and I absolutely love it and will always support her!! Love you Paris xxx
Liza is right, realistically this is the best week Paris is going to have. They’re predicting her sales at about 30,000 for week two, and it’s only going to go downhill from there. I love Paris, but the CD isn’t going to be a hit
Its unfortunate because, like people have said, people won’t give it a chance just because it’s Paris. If it were Lindsay Lohan or even Ashlee Simpson’s name/face on the cover, people would be a lot more receptive.
nothing in this world is already playing on the radio her in the states and i think this song will be a huge hit if she promotes it well enough. whenever an artist releases new and GOOD singles, sales rise. lets see if they do for our girl
What the papers are saying is incorrect,as usual.
According to Mintz, the sales overseas have been 360,000 so far which is not too shabby.And all countries have not yet been tapped.
The sales in the US in the first week were approx. 75,000 which is comparable to Los Lonely Boys and not bad at all.
The first week may be a predictor for some artists but I think Paris Hilton’s CD will keep selling, simply because a lot of people are not yet aware that she has a CD out.
I noticed that all the US channels are giving Jessica Simpson et al a lot of free air time but very little to Paris.
So, for her album to do this well is actually quite remarkable.
Don’t count our girl out just yet.

they don’t even actually hear the album to judge that this album is crap!!
but… since there’re people like us in this universe, paris will keep on working guys..
and personally although i admit that i’m a fans of Paris, the first time i heard the album was a lot more than i expexted… it’s a lot more better then i would have in mind about paris singing a song.. i know i’ve doubt her but, i admit this album was worth listen and there’s some hot track in it!!!

Since Paris is quite versatile, there is probably more than one way to boost CD sales.
She has has a new pefume coming out in October called “Heiress” plus she has a clothing line, so if she wanted to she could sell some items as a package deal along with the CD.
Or she could get stores to sell her CD along with her perfume line etc. Her sister could do the same.
I really think the CD will keep selling, it just needs to be brought before the public more.

I got the lyrics. Pull out the picture on the front cover, it’s actually a little booklet and it has all the lyrics.
i have done that but theres no lyrics just other stuff..
I don’t think Paris has tapped her full potential market yet.
Her CD ought to be going up in every Hilton Hotel gift shop around the world, along with her perfume/clothing line.
Next, Hilton Hotels ought to purchase a few hundred thousand CDs every so often and give them to their hotel guests in the higher-priced rooms as complimentary gifts.
The Hilton chain could offset the price of the CDs on their taxes as promotional material. After all, there has been a steady quarterly increase for the chain - no doubt due to the Paris Hilton name recognition.
Another thing is, Paris needs to hire a big firm like Edelman to agressively counteract the negative image her haters and detractors are putting on the web.
Never underestimate the internet if you want to be commercially successful. Her people have not yet addressed this seriously enough and need to do more.

Just got the CD and no lyrics. The booklet just has credits. Are you peeps with the lyrics positive they’re lyrics, or are they just the credits?
And if they are the lyrics, would you please please please post them?
I bought it and love it. I think the people who figure out the statistics of the album sales are forgetting that alot of people just download songs and dont buy the cd.

I bought my CD on the first day it came out, and perhaps the lyrics were only in the first batch of CDs.
Probably. I’d love the lyrics to Heartbeat and Turn You On (the only two songs I can’t quite figure out myself). Anyway, I’m still happy I bought it. The sound is a lot better than the d/ls I had and it’s important to support Paris. Go Team Paris!
LOL, sorry no lyrics. The people who think there are lyrics on the inset booklet need to take a closer look - it’s just the credits of whoever produced the particular songs. My sis bought hers right away, I bougt my CD a few days later - none of them have lyrics.
