California police do this all the time,unfortunately.They intimidate drivers into giving them permission to search the car when, in actuality, people are protected against unreasonable search and seizure.
What Paris should have done is not talk to the police at all and insisted on calling her lawyer first. NEVER talk to the police without having your lawyer present.And a lawyer will always tell you to refuse to talk,period.

Yes they were searching the trunk. It says so in the other US mag article below, and it’s a typical CA police tactic.
But Paris should not be driving alone anyway. It’s too dangerous for her to be out by herself,someone might hurt her.
