Hilton Denies Kissing Barker

Paris Hilton has slammed tabloid reports she hooked up with newly-single Travis Barker and insists the paparazzi got him mixed up with one of his friends. The ‘Stars Are Blind’ singer is friends with Barker and was spotted get hot and heavy with a tattooed rocker at the Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen’s Club in Las Vegas, Nevada last weekend (ends03SEPT06). A fellow clubgoer claimed the heiress was involved in a steamy kissing session saying, “They were making out like crazy.” Hilton explains that it was actually a case of mistaken identity telling MSNBC’s The Scoop, “I did not make out with Travis Barker. “I was with his friend Alex, who I met that night. It’s nothing serious. “He looks like Travis, he has tattoos all over his arms, and he has a Mohawk. People must have confused him with Travis.”

Update on Paris Hilton Arrestment

Paris Hilton was arrested in Hollywood early Thursday and charged with driving under the influence.

TMZ has learned LAPD officers noticed Paris driving her Mercedes McLaren SLR erratically at 12:31 AM and stopped her. They believed she exhibited signs of intoxication. We’re told they administered a field sobriety test, and Paris blew a .08. In California, driving with a .08 blood alcohol level is the minimum level for DUI.

Paris was arrested and taken to the LAPD Hollywood division, where she was booked. The officers who stopped the car did not know it was Paris Hilton until they approached the vehicle on foot. Police sources say she was cooperative. Paris had a passenger in the car — Kimberly Stewart, Rod Stewart’s daughter.

Nicky Hilton, her boyfriend, “Entourage” star Kevin Connolly and her publicist Elliot Mintz arrived at the Hollywood police station just before 2 AM PST. A short time later, Paris was released on her own recognizance and allowed to leave.

Cops took a booking photo, which and LAPD spokesperson says will not be released. An LAPD source would not confirm it Paris glammed it up for the camera, but revealed “It doesn’t look like Nick Nolte.”

Mintz told TMZ that Paris had attended a charity event earlier in the evening as well as an Us Weekly magazine party. He said she had a single drink — a margarita — the entire evening and shortly thereafter she was stopped. She was asked to take a breathalyzer test when she was stopped and cooperated. She took a second test at the station. For the record, TMZ is told Paris is 5′9″ and weighs 110 lbs.

TMZ spoke with Paris as she was driving home from jail, stopping for Parliament Lights cigarettes en route. She says she “regrets it occurred,” and adds that she has been up for 24 hours, having shot a music video all day. (TMZ had exclusive access to the music video set and our video will be posted in a few hours.) Paris says she had nothing to eat and no rest the entire day.

TMZ spoke with Lt. Russ Wong, the watch commander on duty at the Hollywood station. He tells TMZ Paris received no special treatment, however he acknowledges he did not hold her at the station for the standard minimum of three hours. Lt. Wong says he released her after an hour and a half because a gaggle of paparazzi appeared at the station and posed a significant traffic hazard which he needed to abate. Lt. Wong says it’s SOP to release a first-time DUI suspect without bail if a responsible party is there to drive them home — Elliot Mintz was that party.

Driving under the influence is a misdemeanor. If convicted, the defendant will not be jailed, will be given three months’ probation, and will be ordered to enter an alcohol program and will have his or her license restricted for 90 days.

Paris Hilton Online .Net mentioned in The Houston Chronicle!

No one knows the real Paris

Her publicity stunts must number nearly as many as the four-figure purses in her closet.

First there was the sex tape, then the feud with Nicole Richie and the stolen Sidekick. Lately it’s been the kinkajou bite and the vow of celibacy.

But to hear Paris Hilton tell it, that’s not the real her. The real her is a talented businesswoman, singing and acting her way through a world that doesn’t understand her.

“It feels good to actually show the world that there’s a lot more to me than what they may read in the media or what they see on The Simple Life, because that’s basically a character that I’m portraying,” she said in a recent E! interview. “In real life, that’s not who I am.”

Surprisingly, Hollywood insiders who have watched as she launched a career based almost entirely on name and self-promotion agree: Paris “That’s hot” Hilton just might be one of the smartest businesswomen in the entertainment industry.

“She’s extremely savvy,” said Lea Goldman, an associate editor at Forbes magazine, which this year ranked Paris No. 56 on its list of the world’s 100 most powerful celebrities. “And she’s smart enough to know to surround herself with the right people.”

The “right people” include Scott Storch, a music-industry superstar who helped produce her new album; Chris Applebaum, who directed her sizzling Carl’s Jr. commercial and the video for her first single, Stars Are Blind; and Elliot Mintz, a Los Angeles insider who is now her publicist.

But even more than the people her fame and family fortune allow her to keep in her inner circle, Hilton stays on magazine covers because she knows what it takes to turn a name into a brand.

“Her goal is to develop the Paris Hilton name into a brand that can venture into TV, music, movies, hotels, merchandise,” said Ted Harbert, president and CEO of E! Networks, which airs The Simple Life and frequently features Hilton in its programming. “Paris fits in because, frankly, our audience is really interested in everything she does.”

It’s an interest driven largely by a younger audience that watches her, listens to her and reads about her online. The Web master at one popular fan site, www.parishiltononline.net, reports 150,000 hits a day, more than any other site the master runs, including www.jessicasimpsonfan.net and www.britneyspearsfan.net.

Goldman said that while Hilton herself made only about $7 million between June 2005 and June 2006, her media influence — like the way she’s turned certain L.A. venues such as boutique Kitson and restaurant Koi into photo-op hot spots — is extraordinary.

“We got a lot of heat (for her ranking) because some people said she’s not a celebrity, but really she epitomizes this new (group) of celebrities that requires just having a persona the public wants to follow,” Goldman said. “She really broke some rules and made us rethink how to become a celebrity.”

Not that Hilton, whose family is estimated to be worth $1 billion, ever had much to lose.

“She is the ultimate icon for consumerist America,” said Roger Casey, vice president for academic affairs and provost at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., who is researching the impact of stars like Hilton on today’s youths. “With her economic power and her family name, she’s got an empire.”

But will the public continue to buy into Hilton’s empire, which could ultimately have them spritzing her perfume, dressing in her clothes, reading her books and magazines, listening to her music, eating at her restaurants, staying at her hotels and watching her shows and movies?

Or will people hit a point where they’re sick of the Parisizing of America?

Probably not. Although she’s been named the 2007 Guinness World Records’ most over-exposed celebrity, no one, whether he or she loves her or loves to hate her, seems to mind.

“The question is, when do you reach overexposure?” Goldman said. “She comes perilously close, and yet people are still following her. You can’t pick up a magazine without a picture of her. If the public didn’t want it, the press wouldn’t print it.”

Why is everyone fascinated?

“She’s just interesting,” said Lisa Lynn, a 33-year-old Nashville, Tenn., resident who has a MySpace site dedicated to Hilton. “Anybody that lives a life like she does, you kind of live through her.”

On her page, which features comments like “I love your page, Paris is HOT!” and a friend list of almost 1,500 fellow fans, Lynn tries to update pictures and post stories about Hilton’s whereabouts. She said Hilton is her favorite celebrity because she seems real.

“She is who she is,” said Lynn, who, despite low expectations for Hilton’s album Paris, really liked it. “She doesn’t go in public and (act) like she’s somebody else.”

Unlike other stars like Britney Spears, whose public missteps have caused people to scratch their heads and ask, “What was she thinking?” Hilton’s damage control has been excellent.

For example, the 2003 Internet release of a sex tape with ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon only boosted Hilton’s popularity and expanded her appeal to include the porn world.

“It takes a special personality to have transcended the scandal that was that videotape,” Goldman said. “It could have destroyed a lot of people.”

Harbert, who has spent time with Hilton, said her success is due in large part to her openness about her personal life.

“She’s not private with her life,” he said. “People like celebrities who are involved in business and reveal their personal lives. Paris lives her life pretty openly.”

And while her public life might feel stale and scripted, you can bet people will watch. If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that Hilton will keep it interesting.

“She creates headlines all by herself. There’s always something going on around her,” he said. “I’m as fascinated with her celebrity as you are.”

Paris Hilton’s Debut Album - ‘Paris’ - Is Top Ten Its First Week of Release

The incredible buzz surrounding the release of Paris Hilton’s debut album, “Paris,” built to a deafening roar last week, even before the album dropped on August 22nd in the U.S. Press, paparazzi, and fans turned out in droves to greet the heiress-turned-pop star at a series of in-store signing events and CD-release parties in Miami, New York City, and Los Angeles. Hilton stayed for hours to sign a CD booklet for every fan who came to meet her and offer congratulations on her album. “Paris” debuted at Number 6 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart and sold over 400,000 copies its first week of release worldwide.
On August 23rd, the day the album was released in Japan, Hilton flew to Tokyo for a promotional tour that included a visit to Tokyo Live, Japan’s biggest pop station. Hundreds of fans crowded around the street-level windows to catch a glimpse of Hilton making her appearance at the station. She was then whisked off to HMV for an in-store Q&A and autograph signing for 120 fans who were pre-selected to meet her. Following the in-store, Hilton made a surprise visit to the open air Station Square in the Shinjuku district where she took to the stage to thank the crowd for its support and for sharing the day with her, as the video for her hit debut single “Stars Are Blind” played on a giant screen behind her. Fans mobbed Hilton’s car as she left, throwing flowers to a lucky few. Police in Shinjuku commented that it was the most crowded event they have ever witnessed in the Square.

In other Paris news, Warner Bros. Records partnered with YouTube to launch the first-ever Brand Channel on the leading video entertainment site last week, with all content devoted exclusively to Hilton, including the video for “Stars Are Blind,” behind-the-scenes footage of the making of “Paris,” and clips from her promotional appearances around the world. The Paris Hilton channel can be viewed at www.youtube.com/parishilton and already touts nearly four thousand subscribers. In addition, Hilton is the first recording artist to take part in YouTube’s new Participatory Video Ad. Paris’ ad appeared on the website’s homepage and featured Hilton speaking to the YouTube community about her new album, followed by the video for “Stars Are Blind.” Hilton quickly became one of the Most Viewed and Most Discussed videos on the site.

Next up for the in-demand star is promotion for her new single “Nothing In This World,” which goes to radio this week and is already in early rotation on New York’s influential Z100 and Q102 in Philadelphia. Hilton will shoot a video for the track, which was written by songwriting heavyweights Dr. Luke and Sheppard Solomon, in Los Angeles on September 5th and 6th with director Scott Speer
