Paris Hilton is more than just a socialite and a style maven. She’s an astute businesswoman.
Really.
Hilton stopped in Toronto Thursday to launch her new men’s fragrance, Paris Hilton for Men. It’s a companion for the her namesake women’s perfume, which was released last spring.
At a store in the heart of English Canada’s biggest city, Hilton greeted the crowd with an enthusiastic, “Bonjour Canada!”
She later met many of the gathered teenagers, who screamed with delight when she first appeared.
Before leaving, Hilton spoke with Canada AM host Beverly Thomson about her new fragrance.
“I’ve been developing this fragrance for a couple of years now,” she told Thomson. “I found a scent that I really loved. I went to the factory and had all the oils shipped to my house. I went through them all and [determined] what I liked.”
Hilton said she also came up with the concept for the advertising campaign and the bottle design.
Many television viewers know the hotel heiress from The Simple Life, a show that follows her and fellow “celebutante” Nicole Ritchie on a bumpy road trip through rural America.
Slate magazine says the women come across as “vain and vapid” in the show, but Hilton insists that’s not what she’s really like.
The show “is just another part of my business,” she told Thomson. “It’s a character I’m playing. I don’t act like that in the business world. I’m a lot different in real life.”
In real life, Hilton spent the summer on an extended
European vacation with her fiancé, Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis.
She has since put her nose to the grindstone, recording an album and promoting her new fragrance.
Still, Hilton tries to make time for one of her favourite pastimes: visiting pet stores.
“I like to see the animals and play with them,” she said.
She also likes to go horseback riding.
‘That’s hot.’
